Dental dentures:
full and partial dentures
Should the patient have no own
teeth, a full plastic denture can provide a solution.
However, if the patient has own teeth, but not
adequate quantity or improper position, partial
denture is advised. The aim of both full and partial
prosthesis is to restore the biting function and
the aesthetical effect as well.
Materials and type of dentures
In case of both prostheses the
teeth are made of plastic. Porcelain teeth can
not be built in the prostheses, since their weight
would pull the dentures down. In case of the partial
denture, the detachable element can join in several
ways to the own healthy teeth, crowns and bridges.
One way is a metal clip, the other one is the
hidden anchoring. The disadvantage of the metal
clip is that it is not the best solution aesthetically.
Since in case of the hidden anchoring, the bridge
and the detachable denture are made together as
a combined work, it provides a much better solution
aesthetically, than the metal clip and the denture
sits firmly in the mouth.
Process of the preparation
Let it be any type of denture,
its preparation is similar: taking the imprint
from the jaw – bone, setting the bite height,
trial of the teeth placed into wax, then finally
the dental technician prepares the denture based
all on these. The full process is two weeks from
taking the imprint; in case of the combined work,
is three weeks.
Complications after the preparation
of the denture
Both the patient and the face
muscles have to get used to the new denture, since
at the beginning speaking and chewing might be
a strange feeling. The dentist can correct the
following cases: at eating some tooth pair contacts
earlier, the denture cracks the sensitive gum
parts.
It is very important to clean the dentures after
meals and the use of denture cleaning tablets,
as beneath the denture the bacteria and fungi
can easily multiply, which leads to inflammation.
It is suggested to have a new denture after minimum
every 8 years.
Guarantee
The dental technique undertakes
a one-year guarantee for dentures. For temporary
dentures the guarantee is not valid, since it
is only interim. The condition of the guarantee
is a half - yearly dentist control.
